Sky Bear

In the Premier issue of SAY Magazine’s first USA publication, the cover featured the Native Star Dance Team, a Native American performance group assembled in December 2005.

Their goal was to instill pride in Native American heritage and to display the original history of tribal background and cultural differences while presenting a positive entertainment package.

The six members of the dance team, accompanied by their manager/coordinator, Nick Brokeshoulder, were the first American Indians to perform for the troops in Iraq.

One of the performers was Sky Medicine Bear, who was 21 years old in 2007 and is of the Navajo and Lakota Nations.

Today Sky works as an Electrical Distribution Design Engineer in Denver, Colorado designing Electrical and Gas Distribution systems for new developments in and around the greater Denver area.

He attended Colorado State University from 2007 – 2014, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science, Electrical Engineering with a Minor in Mathematics.

His activities and Societies include: American Indian Science and Engineering Society- President (2008-09, 2011-2012) AISES member Colorado State University Chapter 2008-Present. Helped to promote diversity outreach on campus by organizing the annual CSU Pow- wow, educational movies, speakers and art gallery openings during American Indian Heritage month and throughout school year. Little Shop of Physics member 2007 and 2008.

He was a Performer with the Native Star Dance Team from 2005 – 2008.
